ArtsEd Washington’s mission is to create enduring system-wide change to ensure that the arts play an integral role in every child’s education in every school in Washington State. Through our PAL program, we empower principals to understand the value of arts learning and to develop arts teams, visions, and action plans to support the provision of the high quality arts learning to all students that will make their schools effective and exciting places to learn. ArtsEd Washington has developed Art Lessons in the Classroom, a visual art curriculum for grades K-6 aligned with Common Core State Standards and Washington State Arts Standards. This comprehensive curriculum provides a foundation in visual arts concepts for students as well as integrated ways to learn literacy and math concepts at the same time. Teacher training by ArtsEd Washington is included as part of ALIC implementation. This invaluable professional development equips teachers with the skills and background they need to confidently and successfully teach the curriculum in their classrooms. ALIC is supplemented by online professional development refresher videos and step-by-step photos demonstrating the skills and techniques taught in the lessons, plus images of art from around the state that correlate with each lesson.
