Organizational Statement
Moving Minds Dance believes all things can be learned through dance, so we teach dance within the context of other topics, from social justice to math to storytelling. Every activity we do in our classes connects dance skills to another area of study and encourages students to think creatively about what they’re learning. Our primary focus is to help young people become confident in every aspect of their intelligence, and dance provides all the tools students need to access their strength and kindness, to find freedom of expression, and to deeply connect to their communities. Sample our classes for yourself in our online treasure chest! Here, you'll find a vast array of dance activity videos exploring ideas like the science of flow, how to craft a story, reading a clock, and taking civic action.

Sample Lesson Description: Student / Classroom Residencies
Energy, Force, and Movement for Grades K-2 In this residency, students will use dance to connect to their physical science lessons. Because our bodies are impacted by the same laws that govern all matter, students will be able to feel the relationships between concepts like speed and momentum, and directly experience the impact of changing variables on their movements.

Teaching Approach

Teaching Philosophy + Approach
Moving Minds programming is built around developing joyful, comfortable, and confident young humans first and foremost. We firmly believe in inclusive community, and use positive, responsive methods to ensure every student feels safe, seen, and welcome in class. In our classes, the focus is on the power of movement to communicate ideas- no matter who is doing the movement or what those movements look like. Developing programming with a school and/ or classroom is always a collaborative process. We begin with a planning meeting to determine what the teachers need and want from the residency, and discuss what that would look like. During the program, the classroom teacher supports the teaching artist in delivering the program and integrating classroom curriculum into each lesson, and at the end of the program, both the teachers and the students reflect together on the experience.
Curriculum Integration Possibilities
Moving Minds truly believes that ALL THINGS can be learned through dance. From math and engineering to literacy and language, from history and cultural studies to physics and biology, it's all possible. You tell us what you want your students to learn, and Moving Minds can help them embody it through dance.
Special Skills and Areas of Expertise
Although Ciara enjoys engaging with students of all ages, she has particular joy and expertise in working with younger students, Grades Pre-K through third grade.
